One of the greatest advantages about having pultruded fiberglass is the flexibility allowed by the production process. Because of its flexibility, a number of different profiles can be created, which allows them to open up room for a lot of creativity. This can be used in solving many challenging designs. They are generally circular with a hollow tube and are also available in solid bars. But different tube shapes can be used for many different purposes for diverse industrial needs. While the round shape is a familiar profile of these tubes, the other useful shape is rectangular. The Rectangular Hangrail Tubing as name suggests comes in a rectangular shape instead of the general round shape, which has many advantages.

Why must you use the rectangular tubing?

The first shape that comes to our mind once we hear about the tube hangrail is that it is round, because the dictionary describes a tube as something which is a hollow elongated pole and round in shape. But a Rectangular Hangrail Tube although somewhat similar in meaning, differs a bit in terms of its shape. It is also a hollow elongated pole, but instead of round, the sides are flat in shape. This shape has many different applications. It can especially be used in situations where the round shaped tube fails to deliver the requirement fulfilled by a flat shaped tube. It’s particular rectangular shape allows it to be used for some particular applications. Since the surface is flat, it makes joining one hangrail with the other simpler and easier. It is also much stronger when compared with the circular profile.

Material of the tube

Most of the rectangular tubes available in the market are made up of the following materials: steel, aluminium, PVC, fiberglass, and carbon fibre. Below is a brief description of both the advantages and disadvantages of each of these materials:

Steel: Steel is a very common material for making these hangrails, the first reason being, it is very strong, which is obviously the important aspect. The second reason is that it is relatively less expensive when compared to other materials. It again has drawbacks, which is- they are very heavy and also corrode very easily.

Aluminium: Aluminium is used because of its lightweight features when compared to the weight of steel. It is also corrosion resistant. Another advantage of using this material is that it is a good conductor of heat and electricity, which are desirable properties in certain situations. But they can be expensive when compared to steel.

PVC: PVC, which stands for Polyvinyl Chloride, is a widely-used plastic which is resistant to corrosion as well as lightweight. When compared to the price of aluminium and steel, it is way cheaper to use PVC to make the Rectangular Hangrail Tubing. But its disadvantage when compared to the other two materials is its strength. It cannot be used for structural purposes.

Fiberglass: Fiberglass is available in many varieties and it depends upon the glass fibre used and also the resin reinforced in it. Fiberglass is very lightweight but it is also very strong, which is much stronger than steel or aluminium. It is also highly resistant to corrosion. On the other hand, they are more expensive than steel or aluminium.

Carbon Fibre: it is made with carbon fibre in place of glass fibre. Thus, it has properties almost similar to glass fibre, but even stronger than glass fibre. The biggest disadvantage for which it is preferred less is its cost.
